The Department of History at the University of Houston invites applications for the NEH-Cullen Chair in History and Business. Established in 1984, this distinguished professorship has been critical to the university’s endeavor to link the humanities to the professions. In order to fulfill the intentions of the endowment, the chair will play an instrumental role in the History Department, as well as in the College of Business.
We seek applications from scholars working on any aspect of economic or business history and global political economy, broadly defined. Geographic and chronological concentrations are open.
The successful candidate will have a record of publication, teaching and professional service commensurate with appointment to a major endowed professorship. Commitment to recruiting and engaging graduate students, developing departmental programs, and sharing research with the local community are also vital.
This position comes with a competitive salary as well as research funds made possible by a generous grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Cullen Foundation. We welcome candidates whose experience in teaching, research, or community service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence. The University of Houston is responsive to the needs of dual career couples.
To apply, please submit an online application that will include a letter of application, a C.V., a writing sample, unofficial transcripts, and the contact information for three reference providers. Any questions regarding the position can be directed to the Search Committee Chair, Professor Thomas O’Brien, at [email protected].
The Search Committee will begin considering applications on 15 February 2017. The search will continue until the position is filled.
