University of the West is an eminent Buddhist university offering a diverse undergraduate liberal arts curriculum and graduate tracks ranging from religious studies, Buddhist chaplaincy, and psychology, to business administration. The mission of the University is to provide a whole-person education in a context informed by Buddhist wisdom and values, and to facilitate cultural understanding and appreciation between East and West. It is part of the global alliance of educational institutions and social outreach programs established by the Fo Guang Shan order (Buddha Light Mountain), one of the largest Buddhist organizations in the world. Its faculty and students represent over 40 countries. Its founder, Ven. Master Hsing Yun, is widely respected for advocating humanistic Buddhism and the liberal arts. The University is located on a 10-acre campus in Rosemead, California, just east of Los Angeles, and in view of the beautiful San Gabriel Mountains.
